Supporting London's Homeless Back into Work
02 April 2015
We are very proud to work with and support The House of St Barnabas, a charity that supports London’s homeless as they find their way back into work.
We got involved with the House of St Barnabas when they were reopening in 2013, as the first not-for-profit members’ club in Soho.
The charity, which has been helping the homeless since 1861, was looking for a restaurant partner to run their food operation.
We did become their partner. But we are proud to say our relationship now goes far beyond looking after the food and drinks in this unique setting.
The House of St Barnabas works to help former homeless men and women gain skills and find opportunities to get into sustained employment, especially in the hospitality industry.
They do this in many ways, once of which is through their Employment Academy, which provides training in interviewing for jobs to ensure that students can make the most of the more practical job skills they have studied.
We work in conjunction with City & Guilds to offer them accredited food safety training and hospitality sector knowledge, qualifications they can take on through the rest of their lives.
And when they finish the Academy’s programme, we offer opportunities to the graduates with Benugo, and integrate them into our company as we would do with any other new recruit.
So far this year, we’ve employed 6 people from the programme and they are currently working for us in various roles at Cellarium, NHM, Long Acre, British Museum, Science Museum and the House of St Barnabas itself!
You will find graduates from The House of St Barnabas working and living all over London, we are happy and very proud to be a part of this great programme.
