Located on the 6th floor of John Lewis, 1864 offers a calm escape from the crowds below, with open-air seating, seasonal menus, and views across the London skyline. Whether you’re meeting friends for drinks or sharing small plates under the city lights, 1864 is a place to relax, unwind, and enjoy great food and good company. Take a seat on our outdoor terrace surrounded by wildflowers, settle into a private booth, or enjoy our heated decking – perfect for everything from casual catch-ups to weekend get-togethers. Our kitchen serves a fresh, seasonal menu of light bites, salads and snacks, made for sharing. The bar features a line-up of classic cocktails, crisp wines, beers, and refreshing soft drinks.

Ashmolean Rooftop Restaurant

A celebration of food and wine alongside art and culture, the Ashmolean Rooftop Restaurant provides the perfect setting for any occasion. Dine in our bright, airy restaurant or on our spectacular rooftop terrace, enjoying panoramic views of Oxford’s iconic spires.

Located at the top of the world’s oldest museum, the Ashmolean Rooftop Restaurant features floor-to-ceiling glass windows that open onto a spacious terrace, ideal for alfresco drinks and dining when the weather permits. Afternoon tea is a highlight, often inspired by the museum’s exhibitions, making every visit a unique experience. After dining, take the opportunity to explore the Ashmolean Museum’s rich collections, from ancient Egyptian artefacts to contemporary art, each telling stories of culture and history.

Open daily, join us for lunch from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm and Afternoon Tea from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm (subject to availability). Please inform us in advance of any dietary requirements to ensure your visit is as enjoyable as possible.

Garden Kitchen

The Garden Kitchen is a tranquil oasis which sits within the gardens of the Natural History Museum.

Visitors can enjoy a seasonal menu, homemade sweet treats and barista-made coffee. Try delicious quality options such as a Sri Lankan curry, buttermilk chicken flatbread and fish & chips. This space also offers stunning views of the incredible urban green space in the heart of London.

It’s also a peaceful spot in central London which provides a special option for daytime or evening events. The Garden Kitchen features a unique meeting space called The Garden Room, which can accommodate 70 people. This octagonal room has large windows that offer beautiful views of the gardens.
