Ignatius Sancho Café Greenwich Park

Visit the Ignatius Sancho Café, named in honour of one of Britain’s most remarkable historical figures.

Enjoy a tempting range of freshly baked pastries and cakes, toasted sandwiches, flatbreads, wraps, salads, and indulgent ice cream sundaes.

Charles Ignatius Sancho was a pioneering British abolitionist, writer and composer, and the first known Black Briton to vote in an election and publish his letters. His extraordinary life journey – from arriving on a slave ship as a child to becoming a celebrated shopkeeper, musician and writer – made him a prominent voice in Georgian London.

The café is housed in a beautifully restored former lodge, now part of a vibrant community space within the park. Nearby, you’ll find accessible facilities including Changing Places toilets, a volunteer hub and a community kitchen garden.
